Annette Funicello was 13 years old when she was spotted by studio head Walt Disney dancing in an amateur production of Swan Lake in Fullerton California. Funicello's Mickey Mouse Club teammates were furious at the time Funicello was added to her group later in season one of the show and without needing to be auditioned for. Disney did the right thing since she swiftly gained prominence as The Mickey Mouse Club's best performer with her own Adventures in Dairyland storyline. Funicello needed to record records in order to increase her fame capacity. Annette was not very enthusiastic about her voice, and so Disney enlisted Tutti Camerata to be her manager to aid her development as a performer. Funicello did manage to become comfortable with the concept of recording music and really loved working with Camerata. Annette Sings Anka was the third record, possibly the first to include the songs of rock stars as a part of the music repertoire. Funicello made an appearance in Beach Party which was one of five extremely popular beach party flicks, often co-starring Frankie Avalon. Although produced by AIP the scripts were individually examined and signed off by Walt Disney, in order to preserve Annette's spotless image.
